Eagle Glen and The Pines at Lake Isabellateam up in 2013 to host
the 59th State Match Play Championship.

This July central Michigan welcomes the 2013 Michigan Publinx State Match Play Championship.  Local favorites Eagle Glen and The Pines at Lake Isabella host the 59th annual event and golfers are geared up for a great time.

Can’t play in Scotland?  That’s why Eagle Glen brought Scotland to Michigan.  With natural wetlands and bunkers bordering fine grass fairways in the tradition of Scotland’s finest courses this picturesque, rolling terrain may have been central Michigan’s best kept secret, but it is sure to shine this year at the tournament.

The Pines at Lake Isabella is the second course in the tournament and you’ll find a fun, yet challenging course surrounded by large growing pines.  When you reach the 15th tee take a moment to soak in the view.  That’s what The Pines is all about.  Reminding you to enjoy your day on the greens and surrounding you with natural beauty.  You will be able to overlook the beautiful lake as well as stand atop the dam separating the lake from the flowing Chippewa River

The two featured courses are not the only places you will find amazing golf in central Michigan.  The area boasts more than a dozen play worthy courses.  If you’re interested in coming up throughout the summer check out www.micentralswing.com, a custom play and stay program out of Mount Pleasant where you can play courses ranging from the Premiere St. Ives, Tullymore, Bucks Run, and PohlCat to challenging four-star courses like Snow Snake, The Emerald, and Riverwood.  They even offer fun local courses like the newly owned Maple Creek or Pleasant Hills, a local favorite.

The program will set up your tee times and find you the best hotel in the area so all you have to do is show up and have a great time.  With so many courses and multiple lodging options you can truly create your own custom golf package based on where you want to play and how much you want to spend.

So when you’re up for the state tournament this July be sure to check out courses like the well known Bucks Run.  The course scenery is relaxing, beautiful and winds around Lake Fisher, the Chippewa River, and several natural wetlands. The greens are fast and healthy, and you can see that attention has been paid to every detail making this Jerry Mathews layout worthy of its 4.5 star rating.

Snow Snake, a striking golf course, tucked away in central Michigan  with its challenging terrain, elevation, undulating green, and tree lined fairways, Snow Snake is sure to give any golfer a challenge as you experience the feeling of being up north, without the extra two-hour drive.  Snow Snake’s signature hole would have to be number four. With a green guarded by a deep valley in the front and lined with boulders along the back – topped with luscious flowers, you’ll see why number four is the most photographed and discussed post-round.

Riverwood Resort, a 4 star course, which will test any golfer’s ability and skill level and bring out the best in your game.  Golf Digest’s voted them one of the top places to play and when you hit the number nine hole, one of the most popular holes, you’ll be given a full sensory experience.  As you approach the 359 yardage, the scenic pond and water fountain come alive as you’re surrounded by the green bunkers. From the tee the Chippewa River is flowing softly behind you, relaxing you as you prepare for a tough tee shot.  This is what golfers look for in every course they play, the challenge, the scenery, and that zen moment right before the swing.

All of this can be found right in the sweet center of Michigan, Mount Pleasant, where you will discover small town hospitality with big town amenities.  When you’re in town be sure to check out the beautiful downtown area with local boutique shops, locally owned restaurants, and the charm only a downtown can supply.  The fun and excitement doesn’t stop there.  The Soaring Eagle Casino offers up more than 4,000 slot machines, table games, and a bingo hall.  While the entertainment hall and outdoor summer concert series features some of the best live entertainment around.

Don’t forget there’s something for the whole family to enjoy; perhaps a visit to the new Children’s Discovery Museum, a day pass at the water park, or a stroll through the new gardens on the campus of Central Michigan University are just a few activities you can find right here in central Michigan.
