During Clarke Historical Library hours: https://www.cmich.edu/library/hours/Pages/default.aspx
Thursday, Feb. 23, 7pm
Speaker: Michelle L. Briggs - Director, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Soo Locks Visitor Center
In the late 1800s, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began recording the construction of the Soo Locks using large format photography. Approximately 50 years later, the result was a collection of over 1,700 glass plate negatives, providing high definition imagery with incredible detail. Before the glass plate negatives were transferred to the National Archives, the Clarke Historical Library scanned each one, and made the collection available online. www.cmich.edu/library/clarke/SooLocks
The story of the construction of the Soo Locks, told through this spectacular imagery, is featured in a new exhibit which opens Feb. 23. Michelle Briggs will share her award-winning photography of the Soo Locks in the Park Library Auditorium, followed by a reception in the exhibit galleries, where refreshments will be served.
The event is free and open to the public. All are welcome. Please join us!
