There are many unique stores only Mount Pleasant has to offer, here are five you should put on your list to shop.

The Trillium, in downtown Mount Pleasant has been in their location for more than sixty five years. The owner and manager Helen says she wants Trillium to be a place where women of all ages can come and shop. Helen has been with the store since she was in college at Central Michigan University. The store has been known as several other names, but the concept has always stayed the same. They provide an array of clothing, accessories and make-up for all ages. Whether you are looking for casual clothing, like jeans and t-shirts to more upscale formalwear for a special night out, the Trillium is your one stop shop. Some popular brands they carry are Vera Bradley, Estee Lauder, and Brighton Gifts.
What I recommend you check out when you go there: Their Vera Bradley Collection. They sell everything from totes to wallets and even luggage. There are a variety of different patterns great for all ages, and there is an expansive selection from which to choose.

Basketree started in 1991 at Loafer’s Glory in Blanchard, MI but after two years they decided to move to downtown Mt Pleasant. Just like many local shops downtown, Basketree has changed and grown with the customer’s trends and the latest must haves. They offer a wide variety of unique items, and it’s certain you’ll never see the same thing twice as Cathy and her staff prides themselves on arranging new and exciting displays daily. Basketree features items from jewelry and wall signs to an extensive collection of Yankee candles. You can find many items in the store which make fun and unique gifts for any occasion.
What I recommend you check out: Their pottery. They have many different pieces, from teapots to vases, plates and more. Any of these items would make great gifts, or add to the look of your own home.

New to the Mount Pleasant area, City Closet is a secret gem! Their purpose is to buy and sell gently used named brand clothing for men and women such as Abercrombie and Fitch, Hollister, Fox, and Quicksilver, just to name a few. Since their opening in mid January they have grown rapidly. When I asked the owner why they chose Mount Pleasant, she said they had searched for months looking in cities like Traverse City, and Marquette, but Mount Pleasant seemed to be the best fit because it’s a great college town, and there were no shops like City Closet. It is not surprising their busiest time is when school gets out for Central Michigan University, the owner said they saw a huge increase in sales because all the students were cashing in on selling their clothes from the year and buying new ones for the summer.
What I recommend you check out when you go there: Their jean selection. They have a huge selection of named brand jeans like Silver and Lucky for men and women for almost a third of the original cost. Everyone always needs jeans and this is a great place to stock up on all the latest trends without breaking the bank.

This simple consignment shop needed a boost when Kate purchased it last October; she changed the name and turned it into an upscale resale store. They are strict about what designers they have in store, which makes it special. Kate’s is the only place where you can buy upscale products from Coach to Prada and even Burberry. When asked what her best selling items were she quickly responded formal gowns, they have over 3,000 formal gowns to choose from and they are the only place in town to sell them. Not only do they sell upscale shoes, handbags, and business wear, but you can also find dance shoes and apparel market. A truly unique must stop shop.
What I recommend you check out when you go there: Their handbags. Instead of paying full price on-line for the newest and most much loved designer handbag, you can shop Kate’s and find many different styles, designers, and accessories to choose from that are trendy and cute.

The owner Kim’s goal when she opened in the fall of 2007 was to provide shoppers with an experience filled with exclusive items. Her boutique features items from clothing and accessories from baby to adult, one of kind pieces of home décor and so much more. Over the years, Emma’s Boutique has grown and has gained a tremendous online following, and it’s no surprise why, Kim is a social media guru with over 2,200 followers on her facebook page, she keeps her customers up to date on what’s in the store and what they can expect to find when they come in. Kim said the store is always getting new items and constantly changing, so you can always find something special when you look around. Take a peak inside and you will discover Michigan designer, Jenna Kator handbags, CMU home décor items and accessories, baby items and more.
What I recommend you check out: Their home décor items. There is always something unique to find there, from wine racks, to lamps, wall calendars and more. These items are one of a kind, and can add an eye-catching touch to your home.  But don’t forget about the one of a kind jewelry selection.
